IN THE KNOW
The tradition of giving alms (tak bat) to the monks in the morning is practised by many locals. It is beautiful to watch and says a lot about the way of life here, but the presence of tourists can be disruptive to this peaceful custom. Take photographs from a distance. If you want to participate, prepare offerings beforehand – don’t buy them from hawkers.
